Family impact on education EDC 102H Kyle Weinreich
I have been blessed with a family, who has provided me with steadfast support and unwavering faith in me and my abilities. My family has served as my strongest advocates, most inspiring role models and my unwavering allies. My family fills this capacity in every arena but especially so during my time at Twinfield Union School. The impact this has had on my educational experience has been profound. My family has positively influenced my educational experience so deeply that I cannot imagine the course I would have taken without their support, the example they set or the wisdom imparted.
The support I have received from my family has been the basis upon which I have achieved my success. The support has come in a variety of forms, in a variety of ways and has been a strong positive influence on my educational experience. This enabled me to take risks and make mistakes. I was able to take risks because I knew whether I succeeded or failed it would not affect their support in me or their belief in me. In addition to being able to take risks I was also able to push boundaries. I did this throughout much of my educational experience; as I was experimenting with various forms of technology to help me and others receive an equal opportunity in education. I was forced to push beyond what was accepted, what was known and what was done. I did this with a variety of technologies and with a variety of outcomes; some of these attempts were successful some were less so. No matter the outcome whether I failed miserably or innovated successfully I had the full support of my family behind me. For example I never would have been able to take full advantage of audio books without my families support in purchasing the required technologies, learning how to use them, then finding larger and more wide reaching ways to apply them. In addition to their support when I was successful I have equal if not greater support when I was not successful. Whatever the situation positive and frequently negative; I could turn to my family or look for support, wisdom or solutions that I have not yet thought of. I can remember in my last year of high school when I failed to get into my number one college it was my family through their support and effect they have had on my educational experience gave me the tools to deal with what I was facing.
In addition to my family's unwavering support they have also served as models for the work ethic, dedication and drive that I hope one day to demonstrate. My mother demonstrated dedication to family, sports, up to and including the collegiate level. predication came in the form of relentlessly pursuing whatever her goal with that they were ensuring my brother and I were strongly supported or dedicating herself so that she became one of the best female players in the nation. This dedication I have taken and applied to many of my endeavors including those within education such as my grades, my study habits, and my work outside the classroom to improve it. It is this last endeavor that I am most proud of. I know that if I had not been as determined as I am, I never would have achieved such distinction and I never would've known the meaning of determination were it not for my mother's example. In addition to the determination demonstrated by my mother there is the example set by my father. He never graduated college, he decided that he should work instead. He continually prompts me to “work hard in school,” so that I don’t make the same mistakes that he did. He was fortunate enough and resourceful enough to become successful; yet he would not have been either of these things without a work ethic that puts to shame even the most efficient and driven people. I understand both how important his advice and his example are to my educational experience. The example he has sent of working many times harder than those around you even if it is for the same reward. This is how I functioned throughout high school middle school and how I hope to continue to function in college.
Finally and most importantly my family has been my steadfast allies, throughout my battles with the school board and my administration for educational equality. My parents both fought for me, with me and when the time was right they stepped aside to give me the skills I would need to advocate for my own educational experience. I am fortunate that my parents knew both went to step up and when to step back with regards to helping me advocate. My family set the example and then gave me the opportunity to follow in their footsteps so that I gained skill necessary to advocate for myself. This is perhaps the most crucial skill to my educational experience.
If not for my family I believe my educational experience would've taken a wholly different and distinctly negative tone. If I had not had the support of my family, the examples they set and the skills they taught me. I would never have been in a position to pursue higher education, motivated enough to do more than high school required, or if received the support I needed to pull the bits of wisdom out of my numerous failures. Fortunately for me my family was supportive in every way I have just described and in many ways I have not. I am forever amazed at the success that I have achieved up to this point because I cannot imagine reaching this point without my family's support.
